This Saturday I had the privilege of photographing a real Texas Wedding at the beautiful 9E Ranch Bed and Breakfast in Bastrop. The lovely couple rode their horses up to a gazebo sitting at the top of the hill and exchanged the heartfelt vows they had written to each other. This was a very peaceful moment as the bride and groom listened to the words of the Pastor and looked off into the forest of pines.

Photo 5/52 - Snow Day Cardinal
I love photographing birds, especially brightly colored ones. There are a few Cardinals that hang around my house but they are usually very camera shy. On our "Annual Texas Snow Day" this past Friday, they decided to be a little more social and made their way to the bird feeders while I was photographing from the front porch. They seem to enjoy the freezing weather more than the average Texan!

Photo 4/52 - Doors of Smithville
I have a small obsession with photographing unique doors. Ok maybe it's a big obsession with photographing unique doors. I can't help it. I do it everywhere I go. There is something so beautiful and alluring about doors. The more intriguing the door, the more magical the world behind it must be. I was in Smithville, TX this weekend and fell in love with the little town and all of its doors.

Photo 3/52 - Four Things Come Not Back
For the past couple of weeks, I have been cleaning out some space to create a natural light photography studio. The space is currently being used as storage for a whole bunch of...well...stuff. I came across a box of old newspaper clippings, cards, and handwritten notes which I'm pretty sure belonged to my grandmother. On top of one stack of clipped together cards was the proverb in the photo.
How true the message is and how often we forget it.
We can never truly take back the spoken word (or in this age...the written, emailed, texted, or blogged word). Sticks and stones may break our bones but words will never hurt us, right? Lies! Words are powerful things that we need to think carefully about before we use them. Just because we have the freedom of speech doesn't mean we should say everything we think. We should use our words to infuse positivity into the world.
As for the sped arrow, once we put something into motion we cannot take it back. Remember that every action has a reaction and we must deal with the consequences whether they are good or bad.
Time past is history. Simple as that. We learn from it and move on. It's human nature to dwell on the past but we have to remember that time past cannot be brought back and changed. It has created who we are today and will continue to do so for the rest of our lives.
There is an old saying; "Opportunity only knocks once". Whenever we get an opportunity to do something positive we should use that opportunity. Do not neglect the opportunities given to you. Every opportunity you seize is life changing.

Photo 2/52 - Mission Trip 2011
I spent this past weekend on a Mission Trip in Eagle Pass, Texas. The Lutheran church I belong to in Austin is a longtime friend of a Lutheran church in Eagle Pass. I couldn't pick just one photo of the trip so I made a collage of a few favorites. The subject of the photo on the far left is a little girl that attended the afternoon activities we hosted at the church. She didn't speak much English but she definitely understood when I said "hold up your bookmark and smile". The photo at the top shows the amazing Thai meal that some members of my congregation prepared for everyone. The bottom photo shows handmade cross necklaces that were created especially for this trip by a family in my church. Through the help of those on the trip, the crosses were strung and handed out to the members of the church. The subject of the photo on the right is a girl from my congregation intently watching her new friend build some playground equipment for the church.
This trip has been such a great opportunity to strengthen the community of all those involved. I had such a great time this weekend and am already looking forward to next time!

Photo 1/52 - Willow Tree "Happiness"
FREE to sing, laugh, dance... create!
This is a Willow Tree Angel. I have a small collection of these simple yet beautiful figurines. Each one symbolizes a quality that, as the artist puts it, "help us feel close to others, heal wounds, or treasure relationships." This particular figure is called Happiness and reminds us that we are "free to sing, laugh, dance...create!"
